FFT2 Training (S-130/S-190)

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THE FOLLOWING DATES

September 14-15, 2017

Fort Custer Training Center, Battle Creek, MI

This training is a combination of supplemental classroom sessions and required field exercises in order to complete FFT2 Training and receive NWCG certificates. Registration fee includes training, materials, and meals. This 2-day capstone training to the online courses will be run like an overnight wildfire incident. Please download the “Basic Firefighter (FFT2) Training Information” from the link above. The online modules can be completed anytime. Make sure you print and save the certificates at the end of each unit.

2017 Crew Boss Academy

Academy Objectives: This 10-day workshop is designed to build or enhance the skills necessary to be an effective Single Resource Boss. Using classroom instruction and field exercises, participants experience opportunities to gain leadership capabilities and team building through group discussions, interagency cooperation, and work with individuals with a varied background. The workshop is administered using the Incident Command System (ICS). Upon completion of this Academy, a student will:

  • Understand and use ICS to manage a wildland fire assignment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and confidence needed to work in a leadership capacity in wildland fire.
  • Understand safe and effective leadership in the wildland/urban interface environment.
  • Understand Single Resource Boss roles and responsibilities, the risk management process and tacticsappropriate to wildland fire situations.
  • Demonstrate performance as an Engine Boss to safely and effectively manage an engine on a wildland fire assignment.

S130-190 Field Course

The two-day finale to the online portions of 130-190 have yet to be scheduled for 2018. If you are interested in taking the S130/190 Field Course, please complete the Course Interest Form or check back for further details. The online modules can be completed anytime; see below to begin the online portions of these trainings. Make sure you print and save the certificates at the end of each unit.


The National Wildfire Coordination Group’s (NWCG) Training Distance Learning Program is now offering the following courses online:
• S-110 Basic Wildland Fire Orientation
• S-130 Firefighter Training
• S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
• S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior

All online courses require the use of a course administrator. A course administrator MUST be secured before attempting any course work. The course administrator is to answer questions you may have about the course work and not about the technical aspects of the online course. The Michigan Prescribed Fire Council (MPFC) can act as a course administrator upon receiving your registration.

Note: If you have slow or unreliable internet connectivity, it is recommended that you request the CD version of these courses when submitting your Registration form. The Reference Material that is needed for each course is available for download also or can be requested from MPFC as part of registration. You must still be able to print and/or save your test results.

Warning: The results of your course are NOT saved by the NWCG training site. If your course has a test component, be sure that you have a functioning printer/and or save the results to your computer. If you fail to print or save your results, there is no way to retrieve your results and you will have to retake the test.
