Pending Acceptable Weather Conditions
A multi-organization local area burn team including the Karuk Tribe, Mid Klamath Watershed Council, local Fire Safe Councils and Volunteer Fire Departments, Salmon River Restoration Council, Nature Conservancy, US Forest Service, and other groups will implement prescribed burns/pile burning in and near: Somes Bar, Orleans, Happy Camp, Weitchpec, and Forks of Salmon.
Prescribed burning and burning piles from fuels reduction projects on private and public lands can reduce fuel loading and wildfire risks in order to protect communities, homes, and lives. With proper planning during the right weather conditions at strategic locations, prescribed burns conducted by trained fire professionals can be an effective and safe tool. This year KTREX will be hosted Oct 18-29th. In addition, we will be conducting burns using the All Hands All Lands partnership model starting Oct 1st and continuing through the fall/winter/spring season as weather conditions and on the ground fuels conditions create the best opportunities.
