S-131 Online Training


This event is coordinated and hosted by the Natural Areas Training Academy, UF IFAS Extension

Self-paced Online: March 7 - 21, 2022

Required Live Virtual Zoom: March 23, 2022 (9:00am-12:30pm EST)

Both the online and live virtual trainings are required.

Registration is open Feb 24 through March 10 or when capacity is reached.

All participants MUST have wildland fire experience including having been on a minimum of 3 burns before taking this training and must have evidence of having completed S-130/190 (Basic Wildland Firefighter training) prior to this course. 

This is a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) training course designed for individuals with wildland fire experience who are currently qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), and who desire to be qualified as a Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) or Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) in the National Interagency Incident Management System: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS 310-1).

This course will explore fireline reference materials, communications, tactical decision making, position responsibilities, and operational leadership.

*Note: S-133 is no longer offered; material previously covered in that course is now covered during the S-131 course.

Online Training On Your Own

This material (pre-recorded lectures, readings, videos, and quizzes) must be completed at your own pace via Canvas anytime between March 7 and March 21. Expect to invest at least 9 hours.

Live Virtual Training

Participants must attend a live session via Zoom on March 23, 2022 (9:00 am until 12:30 pm EST)

A computer with internet access and video capability is required to attend this live session. Each person must participate on their own device during this live session. Each person must also have an electronic or hard copy of the IRPG (Incident Response Pocket Guide) available during the live session and exam. The exam will be taken online following completion of the live virtual session (allow approximately 90 minutes on the afternoon of March 23).

*Participants must complete the online training, attend the live virtual training, and take the course exam in order to receive their NWCG certificate.

Registration Fee: $75, if registered by March 3. LATE fee of $90 will apply if registering after March 3 through March 10.

All refund requests are subject to a processing fee; NO refunds will be offered after access to the online course begins. Registration closes when capacity is reached, but no later than March 10.

Payment: Must be processed through the Eventbrite website at the time of registration. Payment must be made via a credit card online at the time of registration on the Eventbrite website; the confirmation email sent to you by Eventbrite contains your receipt.
